We’re sharing this article from Environmental Health, by Klara Matouskova and Laura N. Vanderberg, on six principles for responsible decision-making for the health of the environment. It uses the use of Oxybenzone as a case study to show how we need to enact six ethical principals to evaluate the use of a chemical within society. These principles include: Sustainability, Maleficence, Justice, Precautionary Substitution, Community and Beneficence and goes beyond the traditional cost-benefit analysis. When we use this framework to evaluate chemicals like Oxybenzone, it shows that concerted and immediate action is required to preserve our environmental and human health. Please read here.
